QOF to ignore CKD guidance

10-Oct-08

NICE's latest recommendations on CKD are unlikely to be included in next year's quality framework, it was revealed last week.

Speaking at the Primary Care Live conference in London, Dr Paul Stevens, a consultant nephrologist and clinical adviser for the NICE CKD guideline development group, said changes to the framework would be minor.

Dr Stevens said he had been keen to see more focus in the quality indicators on encouraging GPs to work on identifying early CKD and preventing progression of the disease.

He added that although he 'kind of knew' what changes the framework would see, he could not reveal them.

But he added: 'I would like to see it reward people for identifying stages 1 and 2 CKD and maybe we will get there in the future.

'But I don't think we'll see it this time round.'

In the latest UK quality data, CKD was the condition with the largest increase in reported prevalence (GP, 3 October).
