Firazyr (icatibant acetate) is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute attacks of hereditary angioedema (HAE) in adults (with C1-esterase-inhibitor deficiency).
PHARMACOLOGYIcatibant is a selective competitive antagonist at the bradykinin type 2 (B2) receptor. It is a synthetic decapeptide with a structure similar to bradykinin, but with five non-proteinogenic amino acids. In hereditary angioedema, increased bradykinin concentrations are the key mediator in the development of the clinical symptoms.Further information: Jerini
