Bradshaw maintains practices operate 'gentlemen's agreements'

10-Oct-08

Ben Bradshaw
The DoH has received letters from patients complaining that practices have made 'gentlemen's agreements' not to compete for patients, health minister Ben Bradshaw has said.

Conservative shadow health secretary Andrew Lansley asked the government what evidence it had for its claim that practices had agreed not to poach patients from their neighbours.

But the health minister replied that the DoH had ‘received communications’ from patients complaining of the practice. ‘We do not consider that these practices are widespread but, where they do occur, they can cause significant concern to members of the public,’ he said.

He added that the GPC had also condemned the practice in a recent newsletter.

Another example of paranoid economic politics hellbent on wrecking what's left of pre"reform, reform" New Labour NHS.Their misery has gassed the UK into a directionless state of stupor.

The death rattle of a third rate politico still convinced that his completely discredited party has something to contribute apart from the continued destruction of a once great health service.

A very non-PC comment considering the wealth of female colleagues in Primary Care.

With regard to the term 'agreement' I didn't know that Bradshaw understands the term. \(I recall extended hours negotiations as a unilateral imposition).
